Overview

Welcome to An Introduction to Practice Education! It has been designed by a multi-professional team to provide health care professionals with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to become competent practice educators.

An Introduction to Practice Education aims to

build on and utilise knowledge acquired in pre-registration programmes and work-based learning in order to facilitate an optimum learning environment

provide the participant with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to be a practice educator

facilitate opportunities to apply this knowledge and skills in practice

enable the participant to critically evaluate aims and learning outcomes for students in work-based learning

Working through these materials, attending the study days, and completing your portfolio and reflective commentary will equip you to plan for and carry out the effective day- to- day education and support of a student in a practice placement.

When you have completed the module you will be able to

- describe the role and identify the attributes of the effective educator

- apply learning theories that are appropriate for adult and professional learners

-plan, implement and facilitate learning in the clinical setting

- apply sound principles and judgement in the assessment and evaluation of student performance in the practice placement environment

- critically evaluate the learning experience of students in the practice placement setting

- reflect on personal experience and formulate action plans to improve future practice education

There are more details of how the module is organised, delivered and assessed in your Module Handbook. We hope that you find these materials useful and interesting and that you enjoy working through them.
