24 January—Presiding Course by Mike Thornton LUFC are please to announce that we are holding a refereeing (presiding) course on Sunday 28th January at 11am to 4pm (latest) at the Herculaneum Suite/Carnatic Halls of Residence (Mossley Hill Rd, Liverpool) We are proud to invite a very special guest speaker: Mike Thornton who is one of the countries most senior and qualified fencing referees. The course will cost only £5. Payment ASAP to Stef (treasurer). There will be effectively 3 levels to the course – 1.- Basic refereeing for all in foil, epee and sabre 2.-More technical stuff for experienced fencers - to dispel the myths of refereeing picked up over time – for the seniors 3.-An optional exam (BFA level 4 referee – the lowest) which will cost and additional £5 (admin fee) but only if you pass NOTE: It is also possible to enter ones self for the level 3 referee on the same day. This requires the participant to actively do Open Refereeing over a number of weeks as well as a written exam. All those wanting to do one or both of these courses, please contact me asap! This is an excellent opportunity to learn from one of the very best referees on the British circuit. He is an international standard referee and a very nice and personal guy. He is a top coach, assisting the coaching of the Boys Cadet Epee Team. He is also an incredibly busy man, so this is a very rare privilege. For more info on Mike see: http://gbboyscadetepee.co.uk/whoswho.htm This course is invaluable to any fencer. If one knows the rules and understands then, they can learn to use them and so become very good fencers. Plus the club needs good refs. So please come along and have a very good day!
