NIH Image

NIH Image supports nine built-in color look-up tables. In addition, the Open command can be used to load color tables stored in the Look-up Tables folder distributed with NIH Image. You can use the LUT tool (the double headed arrow) to both stretch (changing contrast) and shift the colors within the color table. The colors in a color table can be edited by double clicking on them in the LUT window using the eyedropper tool, although this works best with tables containing only a few colors, around 20 or less.

An extra 15 colour look-up tables have been added to the Color Tables submenu.

Also, the user can select one of the colour tables used by Digital Instruments software (18 of the 26 colour tables are defined initially) in a Digital Instr submenu. If the option key is pressed then the submenu changes to 'Save Digital Instr' and the current colour table can be assigned to the menu item selected (with a change of name if desired). It is not advisable to change the resource ID of the colour table unless you know what you are doing.
