The MWS machines were reinstalled so they all were capable of dual-booting the two operating systems. The server machine stores user files and supplies application software and operating system updates to the client machines. The server and clients are connected via gigabit Ethernet and switches.

The Linux systems make use of the University's LDAP server so usernames and passwords are the same as those for the MWS system. Access to the Linux system is restricted to students registered on one of the Dept. of Earth and Ocean Sciences courses.

The Linux system was built with help from Alan McCormack.
