The picture below is a screen shot of the "Spoon-Dial" browser-based activity. The user clicks on a wooden spoon that causes a movie to play below the spoon dial. The more opaque the spoon, the higher the Raleigh number and the greater the degree of convection. Basically the various movies range from a tiny tremor to full-blown chaotic convection. Another movie plays in the top-right corner showing examples of convection on and in the earth.
