Display Dissection of Dogfish Cranial Nerves

You are required to 'display' all ten of the 'Cranial Nerves' in the specimen of the Lesser spotted dogfish provided. This is to be left in the laboratory for marking.

You should record sufficient notes and drawings to finish a 'good copy' in your own time which should be submitted for marking.

Some sketches of the general dissection of the dogfish (although not necessary)
are available here if you wish to consult them

Virtual Dissection of Skate Cranial Nerves

For the convenience of those students not wishing dissect fish for ethical or other good reason, we have provided some photographs of the dissection of the cranial nerves in a skate.
The intention is that you 'follow the instructions' given to the class for the dogfish, substituting as best you can with the skate.

We recognise that you will not be able to do everything from these slides - we will make due allowance!

However - you are recommended to be 'innovative' in how you tackle the problem. We will be giving due recognition to those students that use their initiative!

You can access the appropriate slides by following the link

A summary Diagram of the Nerves is available here

Best of Luck
