  FACULTY OF SCIENCE

A message for potential students

Welcome to the Faculty of Science, currently the largest faculty in the University with over 3000 undergraduates and over 500 postgraduate students, whose learning is fostered by more than 200 academic and an appropriate complement of technical, clerical and secretarial staff.

Students and staff are accommodated in well equipped lecture rooms and laboratories facilities in modern buildings and are supported by excellent library and IT.

Teaching in the Faculty is underpinned by excellence in research with the result that most students in their final year are likely to have a taste of research training as they carry out their projects. This leads many of our BSc graduates on to postgraduate research at Liverpool or elsewhere. Our alumni and staff, past and present, include many international scientists, with several Nobel Laureates.

There is every opportunity to thrive in this vigorous and exciting academic atmosphere, but I hope that, as students, you will balance academic achievement with taking full advantage of all the benefits of a traditional, well found University set in a major, exciting city where the cultures and traditions of England, Wales and Ireland blend in a unique and vigorous way. Apart from the opportunities provided by the sports facilities and the Student Guild activities, the city within which the University sits offers not only a lively social life through its bistros, bars and clubs but also several theatres, a world-class orchestra and two premier league football teams.

I wish you an academically and socially rewarding life at Liverpool University, the achievements you wish for and a rewarding career.
