Paula Harrison-Woods trained initially as a counsellor and worked with marginalised young people. She then moved into Higher Education as a Mental Health Adviser. She managed a large Disability Service at the University of Hull before moving to the University of Chester to manage support services including advice and guidance, counselling and learning support services. She has been Head of Student Services and Deputy Director of Student Administration and Support at the University of Liverpool since March 2013. She completed a Masters in Student Support and Management and a PhD in Education looking at how institutions respond to students who present a risk to themselves or others a subject which continues to cause much discussion among university staff. She has contributed to national and international conferences on topics relating to student support including support for nursing students with specific learning difficulties. She is interested in the varied needs of a diverse student population and how institutions can provide cohesive support systems. |
