marine electrochemistry

Trace metals in natural waters, including the oceans, occur in various species: they are associated with ligands from organic or inorganic origin. This has an impact on their availability to marine microorganisms and their geochemistry. We carry out research into this area at Liverpool University.

Research activity related to metal speciation:

Measurement of metal speciation in natural waters

Identification of the ligands that bind metals in the oceans

Electroanalytical chemistry: methods to detect metal species and ligands

UV-digestion: used to remove organic matter from water

    New electrodes: microwire electrodes

Bioavailability: experiments using microorganisms and fish
