Travelling to Liverpool

By rail:

There is a fast ~2 hour service from London Euston to Liverpool Lime Street. If no direct train is available, as a general strategy aim for Crewe or Manchester, where regular trains are available.

You can use National Rail or TheTrainline to plan your journey.

Walking from Liverpool Lime Street

Journey time: ~20 mins.

Leave by the main entrance/exit.

Turn left and follow the main road until the traffic lights at Lewis's (opposite corner) / The Adelphi Hotel (left side).

Turn left after the Adelphi then immediately right up Mount Pleasant.

Walk up the hill and past the metropolitan cathedral (on the left) and continue straight on past Abercromby Square (on the right) and under the bridge.

Take the small road on the left leading into the Department of Chemistry, which will then be on your right.

Alternatively...

A taxi from Lime Street Station can take you to Abercromby Square on Oxford Street.


By air:

Liverpool John Lennon Airport is situated eight miles from the city.

A taxi is the easiest option, however, the Airlink500 bus will take you to Liverpool Lime Street Station and the No. 80A bus goes to the city centre.

The airport has frequent flights from EasyJet, Flybe, Ryanair and KLM to and from many European cities, including Paris CDG, Berlin Schönefeld and Amsterdam). The airport also receives KLM flights from the USA.

Manchester International Airport has connections to about 200 destinations world-wide.

There is a direct coach service linking Liverpool with Manchester Airport and a direct train service to Liverpool Lime Street.

By car use the M56, then M6 northbound to Warrington, then take the M62 at Junction 21a to Liverpool.


By coach:

The National Express coach depo is in Norton Street, a 20 minute walk from Liverpool University.

From the exit, turn right and cross London Road into Seymour Street and Russell Street.

Then turn left onto Brownlow Hill and walk up towards the Metropolitan Catholic Cathedral. You are now on campus and can now use the map below.
