Jiwu Ruan was born in 1972. He received his B.Sc. degree in chemistry from Sichuan University in 1994. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry at the Sun Yat-sen (Zhongshan) University in 2004, under the direction of Professor Lianquan Gu. In that year he joined Professor Albert S. C. Chan’s group as a postdoctoral researcher working on the asymmetric catalysis at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. In 2005 he joined Professor Jianliang Xiao’s group as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Liverpool. His research interests include organic synthesis, homogeneous catalysis, and medicinal chemistry. His recent research focuses on asymmetric catalysis and developing catalytic methodologies for novel coupling reaction. In 2011 he moved to Cambridge to take up a position in industry.
