Thornton Wood is a narrow tongue of ancient woodland either side of Clatterbrook running from Clatterbridge down to Raby Mere. The wood is part of Dibbinsdale Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is a Cheshire Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve. The woodland is largely ash and oak with hazel and hawthorn in the understory. There are also two ponds and Clatterbrook running along its length.
