Anna Pratoussevitch uses "sticky notes" to help students to consolidate their learning and think about what they have learned from a different point of view. She writes:
Several times during the term, I distributed yellow postit notes to each student. About 10 minutes before the end of the lecture I ask them to think about a question that consolidates their learning, to write their thoughts on the sticky note and to leave the note for me to collect (to stick it to their desk). It is not a test, they don't write their names, but it makes them think about what they learned from a slightly different point of view. In the Group Theory I asked questions like "Write as many examples of groups as you can think of", and later "Write as many examples of groups with 6 elements as you can think of". It gave me some idea of what they had taken on board. It gave me a starting point for discussion in the next lecture which was relevant to the students as they contributed to it. And it also gave the students a hint if the others seemed to know much more. Later in the term I also asked them to write which topics they wanted most to be revised.
