Photomicrographs This is a collection of photographs of thin sections of igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks.  These photographs illustrate the different minerals and texrals and textures found in rocks. Each collection of photomicrographs includes questions about the rocks in the collection shown.   The photographs were taken by work experience students from local schools working in the Earth and Ocean Sciences Department.  Students used a Nikon Coolpix 4500 digital camera attached to a Zeiss petrological microscope.  Photographs of each view of the thin section were taken under plane polarised light (PPL) and under crossed polars (XPL). In each photograph the horizontal field of view is 4.5mm, unless otherwise indicated. If you would like more information about how to arrange a work experience placement in Earth and Ocean Sciences, please contact Chris Hunt in the School of Envl of Environmental Sciences by sending an email to: scfc@liverpool.ac.uk
