Electron Microscopy in Earth Sciences at Liverpool University

Our Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) facilities are based in the Department of Earth, Ocean and Ecological Sciences (DEOES), within the School of Environmental Sciences, Liverpool University. For an introduction to the facility see:

http://www.liv.ac.uk/earth-ocean-and-ecological-sciences/research/deformation-microstructures-and-volcanology/facilities/

Staff responsible for the facility: Dr. E. Mariani (tel. 0151 794 5180 or 45107, email: Mariani@liverpool.ac.uk).

Technical support: Ms C. Pinnington (tel. 0151 794 4087 or 45107, email: murphyca@liverpool.ac.uk

The facility supports research involving backscatter, secondary electron and chemical analysis, but this page focuses on Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) as Liverpool was one of the first Earth Sciences departments to install EBSD detectors and to demonstrate the potential of the technique in geoscience.
