Objectives:

The main objectives of the project are:

  1. To develop and improve a suite of sophisticated computer models in order to improve oscillatory sheet flow sediment transport predictions for situations in which the bed comprises a mixture of sand grain sizes;
  2. To obtain unique laboratory data to examine the near bed spatial variability of oscillatory sheet flow near the instants of flow reversal in the wave cycle and, hence, to assess the importance of 'convective' flow-reversal events on net sand transport rates;
  3. To develop simplified parameterised sediment transport formulae for practical prediction in field situations involving combined waves and currents above beds of graded sand size.
