NOTE  Magnificent resource though the web is, many web pages disappear every day. We try to regularly check for broken links but if one does not work, try pasting the link into the 'Wayback Machine' - Time Travel on the internet! (actually an Archive of most of the Internet)

This site is a new development intended to be of use to various students at the University of Liverpool taking environmental courses.
It will eventually contain information on major environmental 'incidents' which caused either major temporary negative impacts or permanent significant deleterious impacts. They are the type of incident that an informed professional in the 'field' should be aware of and can be used as Case Studies of how not to do things. They should be of interest to students wishing to illustrate essays and so on. I hope that they will also prove interesting and stimulating.

INDEX of Incidents

Baia Mare, Romania - A very significant spill of Cyanide contaminated tailings into a tributary of the Danube. Baia Mare was a gold mining site where old tailings (containing significant residues of gold) were being reprocessed. However, inadequate design and safety precautions resulted in a spill of highly contaminated tailings and water which flowed across international borders to the sea, killing fish, poisoning water supplies and threatening international biosphere reserves.
