Sulphate Deposition in British Columbia

The following graph describes sulphate deposition rates in 13 sites in British Columbia. The measurements indicate that the various sites have deposition rates below the eastern Canada standard for moderate sensitivity. This standard was developed for the protection of moderately sensitivity aquatic systems. The protection of more sensitive habitats requires sulphate deposition levels less than 8-12 kilograms per hectare per year. Sites located at Victoria, Squamish, Vancouver, Kitimat, Port Hardy, and Agassiz have pollution levels that are higher than this standard.
