Dioxins and Flame Retardants

For further information on these persistent chemicals please go to our new website on Organohalogens which will include information on various groups of compounds containing Chlorine, Bromine and Fluorine (Iodine containing compounds tend to not be very stable and are not regarded as environmental problems.

Dioxins are chemicals made by accident in an industrial process or by combusting organic compounds with high levels of chlorine in an uncontrolled manner.

Flame retardants in this context are chemicals that contain Bromine to slow combustion. They are based on a variety of organic molecules and structures
